‘Same-sex’ Marriage Ceremony in Philly, One Step Closer to Radically Changing PA Marriage Law??

November 19, 2007

The Philadelphia Inquirer front page story has gay activists hailing former Mayor John Street as he is set to preside over the “marriage” ceremony of two men. Nevermind that gay marriage is illegal by statute in Pennsylvania. To top that, the ceremony will take place in Phila. City Hall.

Since when is gambling a crime in Atlantic City??

November 15, 2007

“23 charged in Atlantic City gambling ring” (Atlantic City Press)
Crazy headline in a city and state that are wed to casino gambling! So I ask: Is it only wrong when the state doesn’t get its greedy hands on some of the poor souls’ money?

Hats off to Peggie Miller and her White Ribbon campaign!

Peggie Miller, courtesy of Lancaster New EraHometown Hero award winner, Peggie Miller of Lancaster was featured in her hometown newspaper for her decades-long efforts to raise awareness of the harmfulness of pornography and to protect families and communities by keeping sex businesses out of her area. The positive White Ribbons Against Pornography (WRAP) campaign is underway across PA and the nation this week. Peggie was honored with Pennsylvania Family Institute’s Hometown Hero award in 1999.

Christian foster parents threatened by ‘gay laws’ in Britain

November 5, 2007

Article from London newspaper worth reading. See this as a warning of the very real consequences on foster care and religious liberty of ministries, providers and families. Even in seemingly innocuous bills like PA House Bill 302 (out of committee and before our PA House awaiting action) and PA House Bill 1400 (in House Judiciary committee) that include “non-discrimination” language about “sexual orientation.” Elevating sexual orientation and gender identity to the level of racial discrimination could have a chilling effect on (read: shut down) a church’s speech and therefore its ability to carry out the gospel. Action: Now is the time to tell your PA state reps to vote NO on HB 302 and HB 1400. Message: It’ s about protecting religious liberty, not special class status for sexual orientation! You can look up and contact your state reps by clinking the Citizen Action Center.

What! Police needed at casinos? Say it isn’t so?!

November 1, 2007

Headlines today say that the PA state police might have to cut back their 24 hour duties at the new slots casinos because of funding issues. My first thought was “Why are we providing state police if the gambling supporters told us that there’s no link to crime, right?”

Well, no. 1, they are wrong. Big time gambling does attract crime and corruption.

And no. 2, the real reason for the non-stop police presence is that the casino owners don’t want to get ripped off! (it’s true) They make a living off of taking customers’ money as fast as they can, but don’t want to lose a token’s worth of money from their coffers. And I hope reports are right that cops will eventually be paid out of casino’s pockets, not taxpayers’ budgets.  Join the statewide group helping to fight against casinos coming to your neighborhood.
