Governor to teens – video poker is the answer

by

Michael Geer with Tuesday’s Family Update:

Recently, I heard Governor Rendell say in a public service announcement against teen alcohol abuse, that we all need to help teens make wise decisions to protect their lives and their future.

That’s good advice, but it’s quite contrary to another message that Gov. Rendell is touting to our teens: that gambling is a cost-free way to solve problems.

Our Governor has been pushing the legalization of video poker machines in thousands of bars, taverns and restaurants across the state as a way to fund college tuition grants. Even worse, he’s been visiting Pennsylvania high schools, under the guise of a civics class, to encourage the teens to push their parents and their legislators to support video poker. Video poker is considered the crack cocaine of gambling, and for our governor to be peddling it to our youth is unconscionable.
