Since this mandate gained wide public attention, there has been no discussion by the administration of the legal and constitutional questions involved. Instead, the Obama administration and its allies on the left have done their best to muddy the waters of the debate by framing it in terms of “women’s health” and “reproductive freedom,” suggesting in the process that their opponents want to make the use of contraceptives illegal. Federal Court Rules in Favor of Right of Conscience

In a decision that could impact the unfolding debate over the HHS mandate, a federal court in Washington state upheld the First Amendment rights of pharmacists to refuse to distribute potentially abortifacient contraception and abortion-inducing drugs, such as Plan B and Ella, if doing so would violate their religious beliefs. The decision overturns Washington Board of Pharmacy rules approved in 2007 by pro-abortion governor Christine Gregoire, which lacked the exemption.

Congressmen Protest President’s Birth Control Mandate
