Voter Registration Deadline Days Away! Are You Registered?

March 16, 2012

This year, the Pennsylvania Presidential Primary is a competitive one. Make sure you get out to vote in April!

You’ll get to vote for president of the United States, but will also vote on offices closer to home: your state representative and state senator, US representative in Congress and US senator.

Read the news on any given day and you’ll find that often it is local officials that make decisions that directly affect you, your family, your business, your church and your neighbors.

How are your elected officials doing to represent your values? You can become part of the answer only if you’re firstregistered to vote by March 26th, then get out and vote on Election Day! If you’ll be 18 by Election Day, make sure you register as well!

Are you registered to vote? How about your family, friends and church? Did you know polls show that as many as half of those sitting around us in our churches either are not registered to vote or don’t show up at the polls?! You can help change that!

Hold a “Voter Registration Sunday.” The registration deadline is next Monday, March 26, so you only have this Sunday, March 18 and next Sunday, March 25, advertise it in your church bulletin with the help of your pastor, set up a small table with the forms and information and you’re set! Just be sure to get those forms back to the county elections offices by March 27th.

You can find voter registration forms at your local County board of elections or online at www.votespa.com.

Important Pro-Life Votes Coming up (As early as Monday, May 23rd)

Important Pro-Life Votes Coming up (As early as Monday, May 23rd)
Your State Senator Needs to Hear From You

Please call your State Senator on Two Key Pro-life Votes:

1. Ask your State Senator to support the Mensch Amendment to Senate Bill 732. The Mensch Amendment is almost identical to HB 574 which passed the House by close to a 3:1 margin last week and would require abortion facilities to abide by the same standards as other ambulatory surgical facilities.

2. Ask your State Senator to vote for Senate Bill 3 — which would allow PA to opt out of abortion coverage in the insurance exchanges required under the federal health
care plan. This bill would make sure that none of YOUR state tax dollars help to fund abortions.

Use our Citizen Action Center!

Call your State Senator today! Yes on the Mensch Amendment to SB 732 and Yes on SB 3.

Background:
The Grand Jury investigation and report on the Philadelphia abortion clinic scandal exposed horrific wrongdoing and allegations of murder of women and babies under the guise of medical care. Even more, the Grand Jury report reveals that abortion business in Pennsylvania has for many years operated in a politically protected “bubble,” which has allowed them to perform more than 30,000 abortions a year while ignoring commonly practiced medical standards.

Unfortunately, lobbyists from the abortion industry, and its allies, including the ACLU, have been fiercely lobbying against the regulations that the Mensch amendment would require – regulations that every other ambulatory surgical center in Pennsylvania has had to meet for more than three decades.

The abortion lobbyists are using scare tactics in order to keep their special carve-out in the law. I t’s time for you and me to change that!

Call your state senator today. And help spread the word to get others to do the same!

Seeing the Glory of the Lord: Prayer for State Senate

February 11, 2010

Recently Michael Geer sent out an email regarding what’s happening with Pennsylvania politics. He referenced a comment made by a recent college graduate he helped find an internship for at the Capitol. After just a few weeks, the graduate admitted the experience so far has been very discouraging.

The graduate described the Pennsylvania Capitol as being “a very dark place.”

Whether it’s the Bonusgate scandal, the threat of bankruptcy in the upcoming budget or the range of issues facing our state, there are a lot of “dark” things happening in Pennsylvania.

We need to be reminded, especially during dark times, about the glory of God. Ezekiel 44:4, which is written on the wall of the Pennsylvania Senate Chamber of our Capitol, says:

“I looked, and, behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house.”

Dr. Del Tackett, in his lesson on the American Experiment of The Truth Project, describes the concept of light versus darkness when looking at our culture:

“Darkness does not overtake light, but light overtakes darkness. And if there is darkness spreading through the land, guess what? It is not because somebody went out into the middle of Kansas and opened up a box of darkness. No, if darkness is spreading across the land, guess what? It’s because somebody’s hiding the light. Or worse than that, Jesus is removing the lampstand from its place.”

Fifty Senators, each representing a portion of Pennsylvania’s citizens, debate important legislation on a daily basis at the Capitol; “a very dark place.”

With so much “darkness” to battle in Pennsylvania politics, please pray for light to be found in Harrisburg. Pray that the glory of the Lord will fill the State Senate. Pray for wisdom in the leadership they provide to our state. Pray for the safety of their marriages, of their families and for traveling to and from the state capitol.

Please pray that God will not to remove the lampstand from its place and that Pennsylvania, and America, remain a God-fearing state and nation and a beacon of freedom and hope.

Another verse found in the Senate Chamber is 1 Cor. 6:20:

“Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

May God be glorified in the Pennsylvania State Senate.
